“Remind me of the implication of sun activity being “strong”. We’re gonna fry or freeze?”
Our future is cold, regardless of the number of sunspots. Maybe not in our lifetimes, but in our grandchildren’s (???)
A strong Coronal Mass Ejection directed at earth from a sunspot, maybe not even as large as the Carrington Event in 1859 (since out magnetic field is weakening), will send the world back to the 1800’s (or earlier) as the grid goes down and most electronics are fried. More sunspots equal more chances for that to happen.
Loss of electricity means a loss of heat for most people, at least in the U.S. Most people north of the Tropic of Cancer and south of the Tropic of Capricorn are gonna want to stock up on winter clothing - and firewood.
Thanks, I do remember (reading about!) the Carrington event. Just couldn’t remember whether lots of sunspots meant more heat or cold.
What about short term (ie within our lifetimes)? Say 10 years, what do you surmise?
