Will Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures Friday in the face of possible suspension or expulsion from the organization after he slapped Chris Rock during the Oscars last weekend.
In a resignation statement, Smith said he would accept any consequences imposed by the Academy’s Board of Governors for his actions.
“The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home,” Smith said in the statement, obtained by Variety.
“I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.”

Just make him pay 50 bucks for slapping someone.
For all his heavenly talk of “love” and such, he sure displayed a lot of hate.
Actions speak a hell of a lot louder than empty words, Will.
Let’s connect the dots. Pfizer is about to release a drug to combat alopecia. Pfizer was a sponsor of the oscars.
“He wont even be able to land a car shield commercial gig”
not old and forgotten enough anyway ...
Will Smith couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag.
The “staged” slap failed miserably.
I as a man am insulted by Will Smith. Only a Frenchman who when insulted by another, would slap the other man. Real men in America would punch the guy’s lights out. Oh it was staged for ratings.
The Smith Family can put out a Rap Movie and album in the Austrian Alps called the Von Slap Family. Jada loves Rap.
A quick search turned up this: "By resigning, Smith will no longer be able to vote on Oscar-nominated movies and performances each year. His work, however, will still be eligible for future Oscars consideration and nominations."
So his resignation basically amounts to nothing.
Go away and stay away!
So you have to join the club in order to have a chance to win the award? What saps.
You wouldn’t want to take it away because it belongs to the film and the other people involved.
Like when a politician is "censured".
This should remove all doubts that this was real, not staged.
Heads up Kim K, Jada has her sights set on Kanye.
OJ Simpson was likeable, too.
It was just black on black violence. What’s the big deal? We ignore it all of the time in Chicago.
It doesn’t, and it was.
These are actors, it’s what they do. Doesn’t mean they’re smart, likeable, talented, or normal, but it’s what they do.
