Thinking of adopting another rescue, still grieving over the loss of my rescue of 12 years, she died in 1/21.
She was a 45 lb. bundle of joy(hound,lab,pit mix) never barked.
I still miss her, but maybe it's time to renew.
The dog pounds are 90% full of pit bulls right now.
My daughter adopted a black lab who is quite the sweetheart. Well mannered, doesn’t bark, loves people, very intelligent.
We had to put our pure breed Collie down in August 2020...Hardest thing we’ve ever done.
We prayed on getting another dog and didn’t feel led——then out of no where our daughter found a stray on a trail in WV. She is a mutt and is the best dog we’ve ever owned.
She is 17 different flavors but mostly:
Shepherd, Dachshund, Border Collie and Roddie.....

Boston Terrier if you can find one. People don’t give them up.
Beagle mix or lab mix. We had a beagle/sheltie mix that was great. So smart and very loyal.
if you can find a sheepdog, they are very friendly goofballs to own- we loved ours, but lots of maintenance
labs are nice too, but tend to wander- so keep an eye on em
We rescued a lab/hound mix—and he howls like a hound—but great dog, always lots of fun.

Rather than search for a particular type of dog, why not just make the rounds and find a dog who connects with you?
You’ll probably be happy with anything, Dogs are great.
pit bulls are the BEST!!!! the shelters are full of them. since you’ve had one before, at least a mix, get another. They are precious and in dire need.
Go to the pound and see which dog adopts you!
We have 2 strays. On was a puppy dumped in our area. The other half starved stray on college campus. They’ve been good dogs
Border collie pit mix. Had a red heeler lab mix, best dog ever.
My best advice is go with what you are comfortable with.
We got a chocolate lab puppy back in 2005 at 6 weeks old, he lived until he was 12.5 years old, we had to put him down, he was eaten up with cancer, really tore us up.
After 3-4 months we really missed having a dog around the house and decided to adopt, we got in touch with the local lab rescue organization, after a couple of weeks, my wife saw another chocolate lab that was 5 years old that needed a home, he was living at a local vets office because no one would foster or adopt him because earlier in his life he was shot by someone using birdshot which made him incontinent.
My wife said, we can help him, so two days later we went to the vets office and said we would foster him, he came home with us, 2 days later we told the lab rescue group he was never leaving our house, he’s been with us for 3 years now.
He has to wear a diaper in the house because he can’t control his peeing, but the diapers work fine and he’s been a real joy.
