When I used to write letters to the editor to newspapers, I realized few read long ones. I made a rule for myself.

One 8 1/2 X 11 page, double spaced, typewritten.

It made for a perfect 2 column piece, fairly short.

People read them.

It is much harder to edit down to that length than to write a long piece.

If you want people (including me) to read what you write, figure out how to say it in that amount, no more.
