Batteries were made unreplaceable to shrink the size and weight of products which people really liked, especially as batteries became smaller, more powerful and had longer life. The battery life is matched to the expected product life. I'm typing this on a 2014 MacBook Pro and the machine is constantly warning me that the battery is worn out. I'd have to change the USB ports, the battery, the keyboard, and a bunch of other stuff to put this machine back in tip-top condition. But then I'd have an eight year old obsolete computer.

These regulators are nuts.

Maybe the EU can, while they are at it, force Apple to make the RAM on all laptop models easily upgradeable. And force them to have replaceable video cards as well. (jk)

Hey what about user replaceable cpus and screens? They really knew how to make stuff in the 90s and 00s! Let’s go back! Why not?
