Even if he was right about the ratio (he probably isn’t), it still wouldn’t make a recipe for a successful television news show. “If it bleeds, it leads” is the rule, because that is what will actually bring in the viewers. Show some public interest piece about a regular guy trying to work a regular job to feed his regular family, and everyone will change channels, because they want to escape their own regular lives, not watch someone else’s.
