The Los Angeles Police Department confirms to Variety that Chris Rock has “declined to file a police report” following an altercation with Will Smith at the 94th Academy Awards. Smith took to the stage during the 2022 Oscars and slapped Rock after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith.

Totally agree.
And how about security... Maybe I have seen Body Guard too many times, but I always thought they these people had personal security. Smith should have been at the bottom of a dog pile, and quickly charged with assault at a minimum.

Does anyone really believe Rock didn’t know what was coming? Instead of stepping back he stood there and grimaced in advance of a “Hollywood slap,” in which Smith’s hand barely made contact with his face.

Takes us back to a different time, when men defended their families, and showed restraint. Today, if you so much as touch someone, it is assault.
My take on this is that Rock realized after the joke that it was in bad taste. He probably deserved what he got.
The best part is that it totally voided everything the Smith had prepared to say, should he win an Oscar.

Bet more people watch the Oscars next year because of it, though. As they say, there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
He mentioned it in his acceptance speech, Denzel Washington warned him, when you are at the height of your fame, the devil steps in.
I watched the video last night. What I found interesting was Rock’s reaction to being slapped. He didn’t reflexively put his hand up to his face. He kept smiling. It looked like Smith used 2 hands. One to slap, and one to follow through. I think it was staged. Why? Because they are actors and that’s what they do. Smith’s emotions seemed real, but that’s why he gets the big bucks.
I guess "his people" don't know that violence is not the answer.
I think they already approximate that. Didn't see many Whites, they are no longer acceptable to the Oscars. Maybe because they knew how to behave.
It was a joke. As far as I can tell there was no ill will. In today's society knee jerk violence is not the answer.
