I do love me some Kona Volcanic Estate Hawaiian Coffee, every morning.
I spent most of my life as a black coffee aficionado. Loved all the various regions and their particular taste. When I lost my stomach to removal for stomach cancer I was told by the MD Anderson dietician that I would have to give up coffee, caffeinated or not. The acid would not agree with me. I did so for the past two years drinking various teas.
So I started taking bariatric vitamins etc from specialty shops that dealt with items for those that had gastrectomies or other bariatric needs. One of these shops had an article explaining why coffee no longer agreed with me or was desirable. It said that coffee had a variety of acidic compounds. One of these (chloratric as I recall) was a product of the roasting process and was only broken down sufficiently by the stomach and those of us without that ability would always react poorly to coffee as our intestinal tract could not break down that acid.
They said there is hope for us if we found “air roasted” coffee as that method did not cause the roasted coffee to produce that one acid with which we could not deal. Of course, they had a brand for sale which I bought and tried and behold it was true, I could drink coffee again.
I also knew of a coffee company I had always liked in Kansas City that used Air Roasting exclusively — The Roasteriee. I have ordered some of their coffee as well to try as it is wonderful coffee. (The American Restaurant Blend, 40 Sardines and The Classic Cup are the blends I enjoyed the most in the past.)
For those that like but no longer tolerate coffee, try some air roasted coffees and see if that gives you relief from the problems.
