Won’t Russian engineers just use their bridging equipment to cross?

They could, but its a pretty broad stretch of water and may take a while. Assuming that the Russians have their engineering assets nearby.

Concrete is heavy and non-portable, but it’s not easy to destroy. Whereas bridging equipment is presumably far more vulnerable to attack.
