Grades are probably harder to get at a good private school. The students from Brentwood can probably still get into good private and out of state public colleges, but not UCs.

This is all about status points for the parents. The notion that unless you attend the Ivy League or Berkeley or the like you’re doomed to a life of utter squalor is complete nonsense.

Not likely. There is usually grade inflation at such schools. When you are paying big money, everyone gets a trophy.

I’m thinking the same thing...of all the UC schools, Berkeley, UCLA and probably UCSD are highly desirable, but others not so much. I’d bet there are still plenty of these kids going to Brown, Columbia, Harvard and other top private schools. Most of them can pay full ride.
