Putin’s basically a king. He doesn’t care what race, religion or whatever else you are. The only characteristics he cares about are your loyalty and your ability, in that order. That’s why his right-hand man, Sergey Shoigu, is half-Mongol, and a key aide, Ramzan Kadyrov, who’s in charge of making sure coups and revolts are scotched is not just a Muslim and a Chechen, he’s the son of one of the key rebels during the Chechen wars.

Hitler was one of a kind. He wanted to be the king of just the Germans. He could have enlisted the entire Slavic world into his armies (with exceptions made for Slovenes and Croats). Instead, he decide to kill them all. That was, in the end, a key reason he lost. People you want to exterminate have every reason to fight you tooth and nail.
