A more logical approach would be half-hour time zones. Pick one or pick the other and make it permanent. Daylight to standard time makes less difference than where the boundaries are now.
Sunrise/sunset in Boston is already 50 minutes earlier than it is in Detroit because they are in the same time zone. 20 minutes wouldn't be a big deal, but nearly a full hour is kind of stupid.

Why don't we just go ahead and run it up twelve hours? That's where all this is headed.
