It probably gave them an exact location where to hit.
Military bases here in the US tend to be big sprawling affairs, you can’t target the whole thing with less than a nuke. I would assume that might be the case in foreign countries.
Even when I was at one of those monster bases, I kept my electronic footprint as small as possible. And left for the front ASAP.
Of course it only takes one spotter on the ground to identify a specific target...the cell phones just made it a lot easier.
