That’s not the point when comparing the size of different land masses. In land mass, Canada is a very large country. So are China, Russia and the USA. Australia happens to encompass an entire continent, but it has a land mass of 2,941,300 sq mi. By land mass, Brazil (#5) is larger than Australia (#6).

That’s not the point when comparing the size of different land masses.I think it is a significant point. Russia and especially Canada have a lot of unusable land. Canada, is, in effect, a very small country, and it's population is only about 38 milllion.

I remember some Chinese jingoist poster somewhere saying China should just ditch the U.S. as a market and replace it with Australia. I found that hilarious. First of all, China already is a huge trading partner of Australia, but more to the point, Australia only has a population of 25 million, more than 300 million less than the United States.
Australia is another country with a lot of unusable land, and I think Brazil has a fair amount too.
