The incestuous relationship between medicine, insurance, and state/federal government really got going in the mid sixties as a result of LBJ’s ‘new society’ and proliferation of agencies. It has snowballed from there.
All I know is that US healthcare used to be the envy of the world. Friend and foe alike traveled thousands of miles to avail themselves of its unparalleled services. It was cheap and effective; produced treatments, devices, methods and drugs everyone emulated.
Then, the government decided to fix it.
Now it’s on life support.
Whenever doctors of my age get together, they only question we ask is, "How long until the system collapses?"
I don't think there are too many people who understand how close the end is.
