PORTLAND, Ore. — The Gonzaga Bulldogs will likely need to play better if they want to make it out of the second round of the NCAA Tournament and into the Sweet 16. The Zags will face No. 9 seed Memphis on Saturday night.
You might not know it by looking at the final score (93-72), but the Bulldogs struggled early in their first-round game against Georgia State. It wasn’t until Gonzaga went on a 21-0 run that the Bulldogs finally looked like a number one seed.

Memphis is a very good team...
I want Gonzaga to win...I picked either Arizona or Gonzaga to win the championship...
*spoiler*
And then along came Timme.
They choked.
Mimfuss trails after regulation.
Gonzaga will not win the championship. Will be lucky if they make it to the final four.
Michigan State v Davidson was a good game yesterday.
Only team in college hoops to make it to the Sweet 16 seven straight times.
I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out how Memphis went 4-8 during the middle of their season.
That is a great observation. Guess that is why it is called March Madness…too many unknowns!
Well, that streak went bye-bye today.
Yep, sure did. One day, your Huskies might make the tournament.
Not likely. 😩
I wish they’d resume the series, there’s a lot of bad blood between the two programs. It used to be a healthy rivalry, but those days are long past.
Me too. They were supposed to play this past year but the dreaded Covid ruined that, so the game got canceled. Hope it resumes next year and the years following. And that the Huskies get back to being competitive.
I stayed off the discussion boards, due to the different way the two states dealt with it. Then John Stockton upset the apple cart, and went from an historical icon to a pariah. He was thrown under the bus with extreme alacrity.
I usually attend one road game a year, if it's within a day's drive of Dallas. Unfortunately, the restrictions in place in November/December put a kibosh on that.
I also couldn't justify the expense, as we were basically supporting two families. My second granddaughter was born in late October, 14 weeks premature. She's still in NICU as we speak, enduring medical issues just about every day. She's a fighter though, and we're praying for the best.
Yeah - the Stockton thing was pure idiocy. The greatest Zag player with a stellar NBA career and he gets treated like that? Wow. The Huskies were wacko also. We gave up season football tickets because (1) we were not going to wear a mask outdoors for three hours; (2) neither one of us were (or will be) vaccinated; and (3) we were not going to get tested for Covid before every game. So that was that.
Hopes and prayers for your granddaughter. They are very precious!
