i don’t know about mafia, but from all i’ve read the conscripts get pretty much robbed blind on arrival at their duty station...
It's also been widely reported that the hazing of conscripts includes repeated rape. A couple years ago a conscript went Full Metal Jacket and killed 8 soldiers that raped him.
