A decent compromise would be to introduce half hour time zones. It makes near zero sense that the sun rises and sets roughly 50 minutes earlier in Boston than it does in Detroit, yet they are in the same time zone.
Half hour zones would reduce that to a mere 20 minutes difference.

Go back to Standard Time, then people could whine about it getting dark earlier in the evening. Lots easier to change school hours, I’d think.
