Declassified documents show security assurances against NATO expansion to Soviet leaders from Baker, Bush, Genscher, Kohl, Gates, Mitterrand, Thatcher, Hurd, Major, and Woerner

Slavic Studies Panel Addresses “Who Promised What to Whom on NATO Expansion?”

Washington D.C., December 12, 2017 – U.S. Secretary of State James Baker’s famous “not one inch eastward” assurance about NATO expansion in his meeting with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev on February 9, 1990, was part of a cascade of assurances about Soviet security given by Western leaders to Gorbachev and other Soviet officials throughout the process of German unification in 1990 and on into 1991, according to declassified U.S., Soviet, German, British and French documents posted today by the National Security Archive at George Washington University”

OMG you PUTIN STOOGE!!! TRAITOR!!! How dare you put this out!!! That was so, so, 90’s!!! It’s like treaties the US made with the Indians. Not much worth than the paper it’s written on.

Total sarcasm from someone who was in the background at the time, on Soviet soil.

I’ve use the Indian treats Analogy myself because it fits very close

All people seem to see is the bloody savages (Russian) on the warpath right now

But you look deeper you see “wait a minute” it seen many Promises and commitments over years and we’re not keeping a one

See I don’t support war .. but I can see its cause and we have not behave with Honor

If you cannot honor your word who’s gonna trust you can’t have peace
