is Dakota a girl's name or a boys?
Both, but more commonly a girl's name now.
That's totally a thing in the English language, though- boy's names consistently get turned into girl's names. Off the top of my head:
Dana
Ashley
Courtney
Leslie
Taylor
Lindsay
Lynn
Madison
Lauren
Hilary
Kelsey
Aubrey
Stacey
Alison
Meredith
Morgan
Whitney
all used to be boy's names within the last 150 years, but are now predominantly (some almost exclusively) girl's names.
Seems like at this rate, there won't be any masculine names left!

(I had an English teacher who obsessed over this phenomenon, and I guess some of it stuck in my own head; he must’ve had a list 200 names long)

Works the other way, too. Until the advent of little Miss Curley Top, Shirley was a male name.
There’s others, but it’s late.

The one that amuses me is Robin. In the UK and Canada it’s a boy’s name, but in the US a girl’s name. Don’t know about other parts of the Anglo sphere.
