The labs are part of the Biological Threat Reduction Program that has been around for 30 years. This was a U.S. lead multinational program created after the USSR fell to prevent proliferation of all the left over Russian biological and chemical weapons. When that was done they were repurposed for disease control.

The fear is coming from social media, not those who work in the field. Lots of people in government, researchers, and arms control already knew about these labs. It is almost certain any potentially dangerous samples were removed or destroyed shortly after the invasion started. That is assuming they had any samples in the first place.

There is lots of public documentation available. Anyone saying these labs are secret or have secrets is trying hard to avoid what is already public.
