People who “fact check” should make sure they understand the meme, and have decoded it correctly, before denouncing it’s meaning... sometimes they just missed the whole point.
The "cross pattée" pre-dates Hitler and the Third Reich by millennia. The nominal "Nazi Iron Cross" was merely the 1939-1945 version of a German/Prussian medal going back to 1813. I am unaware of any European nation that didn't - or doesn't - have a cross in its history.
The Ukes' fascination with runic characters and swastikas is suspicious enough without throwing simple crosses into the mix. Nobody needs to embroider things when they have the historical realities of Babi Yar and the Schutzmannschaft.

Three options then
1) the cross in this context signifies nothing evil
2) the cross in this context is a nod toward Hitler
3) the swamp has existed a loooong time and use the cross in this context as a symbol of evil and Hitler appropriated it.
I myself don’t know, but I DO know that you don’t know either. Just because it pre-dates Hitler doesn’t mean it’s innocent. How long has evil been around? Is it out of the realm of possibilities that Hitler was just one in a line of many?
