Several years ago I was living and working in Riyadh, SA. My neighbor had purchased a brand new BMW 5 series. A few days later I was surprised to see the same car in his parking stall, the driver’s rear tire gone and the expensive alloy rim half destroyed. He happened to come out of our building as I stood mystified and told me that he had had a flat the previous evening and drove the car home on the rim. I asked him why he didn’t put on the spare tire and he looked at me as if I was the stupidest person in the Kingdom. Asking for his keys, I proceeded to pop the trunk and show him the jack and spare tire waiting there. He was amazed. He had no idea that cars come equipped with spare tires. My neighbor not having a clue, I jacked up his car, put on the spare and threw the damaged rim in his trunk. His opinion of me changed immediately and he offered to pay me several hundred dollars on the spot. I gently refused his offer and suggested that he save his money for the cost of the new rim and tire that easily set him back $2500, From that moment on, he was the friendliest neighbor I ever had.
I don’t want to make assumptions. Was your neighbor a Saudi?
