The British Finally Came In And Fixed The Mustang. Engineers in the UK have created 499 fully electric Mustangs, and I want one.

Just make sure to park it in some empty lot, so your house doesn’t burn down.

You have described exactly how the general public will eventually accept ‘electric’ vehicles - a small diesel or ICE driving an onboard generator which powers electric motor driven wheels and charges a small battery for the auto electronics.
The big stumbling block for many is the recharge time and range. A 5 minute fill-up compared to an 8 hour plug-in recharge is a deal breaker. With a hybrid arrangement like this range is not an issue.
At this time I thing only Toyota offers a configuration that approaches this solution but I expect other vehicle makers to offer this as well.

“Just make sure to park it in some empty lot, so your house doesn’t burn down.”
Do you keep all your battery powered devices in an empty lot?
Everyday, over 500 ICE vehicles burst into flames.

Most charging is done at night while sleeping. Not if you live in an apartment building

I dunno, freight trains seem to do okay. Can’t tell me that they don’t have heavy torque needs.>>> not with batteries. Diesel rules the day.. so much so that locomotive engines are used to power some of the carribean islands. I think Barts has one.

OMG, here we go again!

has a range of 200 miles and or will do zero to 60 in 3.9 seconds Fixed it. If you're doing 0-60 runs like that, you're not going 200 miles.

Those repop unibody assemblies are coming from Taiwan, IIRC. Many of them need to have welds separated and rocker panels and frame extensions straightened and re-welded, just for the car to track straight.
I think I'll keep my original solid-lifter 289 version.
