Why the Washington Post Cannot 'Correct' Its Trayvon Tribute
American Thinker ^ | 8 Mar, 2022 | Jack Cashill

For the Washington Post editors to “correct” this story would be to undermine their own credibility, the legitimacy of Black Lives Matter, and Barack Obama’s place in history.

On February 26, the Washington Post commemorated the ten-year anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death with a loving and outrageously dishonest video tribute to the fallen 17-year-old. Even more troubling, columnist Charles Blow enlisted former president Barack Obama in this mendacious rewrite of recent history. On Friday morning, March 4, I sent an email to “corrections.” I sent the same email to managing editor Sally Buzbee and several other relevant editors. What follows is what I wrote:

Before listing the problems, let me establish my credentials to comment. I attended George Zimmerman's trial and wrote a book on the subject: If I Had a Son: Race, Guns, and the Railroading of George Zimmerman. I have since gotten to know George and his family well. In 2019, I edited Joel Gilbert's brilliantly researched book (and film), The Trayvon Hoax. I have a Ph.D. in American studies from Purdue.

Now for the problems:

Charles Blow tells us, “The contemporary civil rights movement unfolded directly in response to the murder of Trayvon Martin.” George Zimmerman was rightfully acquitted of murder. To launch a civil rights movement on a lie is a bad way to start one.

Barack Obama expressed his outrage at “the idea that this teenager who was walking down the street could be considered so threatening that a private citizen could initiate a confrontation resulting in that teenager’s death.”

Well, Trayvon wasn’t walking down the street. He was lurking in the shadows on a rainy night in a housing development plagued with break-ins and home invasions by young black men, and Zimmerman did not initiate the confrontation.

There’s “The Narrative” - the version of reality the left is trying to sell.

Facts? Don’t matter. Facts are all malleable and a matter of opinion. There is no Truth (capital T) because there’s only a deconstructed reality based on your racial and capitalist (in the economic sense) reality.

This situation was a white male oppressor (Zimmerman who was ‘white Hispanic’ - white because he behaved as oppressor) and the victim - black oppressed person - innocent childlike and full of promise - who was the victim.

That Narrative cannot be questioned or ‘racism.’ The facts are irrelevant to the political usefulness of the event.

The event led to marches, protests, t-shirts, ‘raised consciousness etc. and the BLM astroturf Democrat globalist riots.

As a further example, on Sunday I wallowed through CBS Sunday Morning in order to watch a feature on Dolly Parton and they had a woman wailing about how Arizona began reopening up in the June 2020 period and that her father there caught COVID after having a reunion with his friends and died while being on a ventilator.

Of course, CBS Sunday Morning will feature something like this about Republican COVID policies allegedly killing peoples’ loved ones but they will never correct the repulsive love in Jane Pauley had in summer 2020 with then New York Governor Andrew Cuomo after all of those senior citizens died directly because of his policies.

Wow it’s been 10 years since Obama’s imaginary son was shot in self defense—seems longer than that.

wish Jack Cashill could get the following to Joel Gilbert/The Trayvon Hoax. BBC are worse than WaPo, as far as I’m concerned. having heard this when it was broadcast, I am sure the BBC studio presenter who introduced this segment said Trayvon was murdered.

AUDIO: 9min: 24 Feb: BBC World Service: Witness History
Presenter: Rachel Naylor
This programme will be available shortly after broadcast.
In February 2012, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot dead by a member of a Neighbourhood Watch group who claimed he was acting suspiciously. The unarmed black teenager was returning to a gated community in Florida after buying some snacks from a nearby convenience store His death sparked national outrage in the US over racial profiling and the first use of the slogan “Black Lives Matter”. Rachel Naylor talks to Trayvon Martin’s high school friend, Ashley Burch.

Gilbert’s “The Trayvon Hoax” should have been aired widely and discussed, etc.

An excellent summation by Jack Cashill.

The Left in America is built on lies.

The American ruling class rules by the lies of the Media.

His autopsies showed liver damage that can only be explained as being caused by long term drug abuse. He,as well as that filthy punk in Minneapolis, would surely have wound up on death row had he lived another year or two.

Rot in hell, you worthless punk...and say hello to that worthless punk from Minneapolis while you're at it.

European media seems even worse than our media.

I had a friend visiting from Portugal.

We went to visit another friend, who owned a handgun he kept in his drawer (locked)

When he pulled it out to show it, she recoiled as if just being near such a dangerous thing could be harmful to her.

Just the sight of it actually made her scream.

A few good lesson in plinking with a .22 cured her. She used to ask to go after that. A .410 nearly made her orgasmic. (which is why I love her and you can’t have her.)

Same reason that CBS could not correct the Dan Rather story about Bush Jr. dodging the draft - they had an ELECTION TO WIN.

I have a DVD of The Trayvon Hoax. I couldn’t believe that they got away with faking a witness in a nationally televised trial. I remember thinking at the time, how could this fat, ugly retard be Trayvon girlfriend. Amazing.

It is oxymoronic to use “Washington Post” and “credibility” in the same sentence!!

I am surprised the Washington Post didn’t win the Pulitzer Prize for fiction on that one, New York Times got it for Trump Russia collusion and “ The 1619 Project”.

The world is “a better place” with Trayvon pushing up daisies. One less thug, IMHO.

Thanks for posting this.

It is timely and essential that Americans be reminded of the Trayvon Martin farce that almost put an innocent man in jail.

"New York Times got it for Trump Russia collusion and “ The 1619 Project”." Not to mention their Pulitzer Prize for Uncle Walter's outstanding contribution to the annals of journalism (how appropriate to mention at this time in particular).
