The problem is that missile technology has improved radically in recent years.

Old missiles are just not in the same league as new ones.

One commentator on the web recently said that a new missile was two orders of magnitude greater technology than a twenty year old missile in all respects—speed, guidance, “artificial intelligence”, etc.—and that offensive technology has rapidly outstripped defensive technology during the same period.

Westerners just do not talk about this stuff—they are in deep denial.

The Russians may have a shiny new missile that is superior. The thing is how many of them have they built? They've always had tremendous scientific capability. But they suck at mass production. The only thing they were able to manufacture in massive quantities was the AK-47.

The Soviets benefited from the industrial might of America during WWII. They didn't do that much during the Cold War, they were a paper tiger. Afghanistan didn't count because we lost that one too.

The Russian military appears to be subpar in Ukraine. Their elite airborne troops were destroyed in battle by Ukrianians that were not as well-equipped other than a bunch of javelins/stingers.
