Saw tar & feathering depicted in the John Adams series... horribly painful way to go. But I think your kit is missing a fence railing.

They have the wrong tar. You need the 100 pound cylinder of United Asphalts Type IV keg tar.

ASTM D312-16 I believe will be your governing standard.

Hemp is preferable for the rope too.
