NYC's Met Opera ousts Russian soprano Anna Netrebko over her years long support of Putin - even though she opposes the war - and replaces her with a Ukrainian singer

NYC's Met Opera has ousted its star soprano Anna Netrebko over her years-long support of Putin and Russian separatists, and replaced her with a Ukrainian voice, despite her issuing a statement opposing the war in Ukraine.

Netrebko, who is Russian, said that she opposes the ongoing war in Ukraine. She has been linked to Putin for years and once said she wished she could have been his 'lover' because she admired his 'strong male energy'.

In recent days, the Met has tried to convince her to publicly renounce Putin but she refused, according to unnamed sources cited by the AP.

On Thursday, Met Opera manager Peter Gelb said the company had no choice but to get rid of her while the conflict in Ukraine rages on.

'It is a great artistic loss for the Met and for opera,' Met General Manager Peter Gelb said in a statement Thursday. 'Anna is one of the greatest singers in Met history, but with Putin killing innocent victims in Ukraine, there was no way forward.'

Now, she will be replaced by Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska in Puccini´s 'Turandot' for five performances from April 30 to May 14, including a May 7 performance broadcast to theaters worldwide.

he Met made repeated efforts in recent days attempting to convince Netrebko to repudiate Putin but failed to persuade her, a person familiar with the developments said, speaking on condition of anonymity because that detail was not announced.

The Met´s decision followed the collapse of the international career of Russian conductor Valery Gergiev, who has been close to Putin as artistic and general director of the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg.

I am not a Putin fan in the least, but this woman should not pay the price for previously supporting the supposedly democratically elected leader of her nation. She’s a classically trained vocalist, not a politician.

The Passion of the Moment—Remember “Freedom Fries”? or in WW I “Tube Steaks and Liberty Cabbage?” He best Idea—return to Russia and work there until this blows over in a year or so.

As someone who detests Vlad, I agree. She even opposes the war.

The left sees an enemy in Putin..because they will believe til their last dying breath that Putin helped Trump win in 2016..with China, they are grateful to China for creating covid otherwise Trump would still be President..so they will always protect China no matter what

As long as Russian troop are occupying Ukraine, all Russians supporting Putin should be treated as pariahs.

But Anna’s not doing it. She had nothing to do with the decision to go into Ukraine.

This is like someone blaming me and removing me from my job because of Biden/Obama’s tyrannical policies.

The deep state demonizes, and wants dead, Putin because they know Russia did not conspire with Trump. Dead men tell no tales.

That’s not cool. It’s not her fault that Putin invaded.

A person can like a lot of what their leaders do without agreeing with everything. If you agree with every stupid thing your leader does, that’s plain idiocy - nobody is infallible.

This was a bad move on the part of The Met, but what else can we expect of leftist collectivists if not excessive virtue signaling.

It is very much the same. It is unnerving. Part of me wonders if Rush Limbaugh was the glue that kept people sane all these years and now without him everyone is rudderless on our side.

Just like Anti-German hysteria that built up until a telegram was enough to send us to war in 1917.

They’ve been solidly against him since he started talking about rebuilding after communism. Encouraging Christianity, focusing on the family, encouraging nuclear families having children, banning gay proselytizing from schools, etc.

Putin not a good guy. His past is extreme. He still rules with an iron fist and uses government the way the commies did when it suits his purposes. Then again though, look at the January 6th people. Look at Canada.

And you can never trust a commie, right? But when a guy like him lays out his thought process clearly and can show what changed his mind, how, and why, it’s a lot more compelling. I’d love to interview him just to ask his thoughts on Yuri Bezmenov, a question that as far as I know, nobody has ever asked him.

His points that the rest of the world is going in the direction of the Bolsheviks while Russia has already been through that and is still recovering are also compelling.

He has a lot to come to terms with if his desire to rebuild families is truly genuine. He’s made some moves in the right direction. If it is genuine, he could do a lot of good. I don’t really know what is going on with this whole war enough to say if his actions are quite as evil as some make them out to be. If what appears to me to be propaganda from the other side is true, he’s a monster. I suspect the truth lies somewhere in between, as it usually does.
