Western film icon Sam Elliott is being spit-roasted online after railing on Jane Campion’s 12-time Oscar-nominated drama “The Power of the Dog” for including “allusions to homosexuality” and other LGBTQ themes.
The “1883” actor dropped the shocking bombshell during a recent appearance on Marc Maron’s “WTF Podcast,” Entertainment Weekly reported.
“You want to talk about that piece of s – – t?” the 77-year-old “Tombstone” star sputtered when asked for his thoughts about the provocative Netflix movie, which is a contender for the Best Picture and Best Director Academy Awards.
For the uninitiated, the much-praised “The Power of the Dog” stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a closeted gay rancher in 1925 Montana who’s abusive toward his new sister-in-law and her son.
...
“That’s what all these f – – king cowboys in that movie looked like,” the Oscar nominee ranted. “They’re all running around in chaps and no shirts. There’s all these allusions to homosexuality throughout the f – – king movie.”

Don’t mess with Sam Elliot, he is pure Cowboy.
Well, he will be cancelled from 1883, but he doesn’t care, I guess.
And he spoke the truth abut the movie.
I read this story elsewhere & my only thought is, Sam Elliot has been around Hollyweird long enough to know what is good and what is a piece of excrement. In fact, I am pretty sure he has appeared in both. Most actors have.
He doesn’t like the new homo cowboys Hollyweird creates to satisfy their own perversity 🤪
Isn’t Benedict Cumberbatch becoming a little typecast? Hollywood casting director: “We need a seeming-gay actor to play in a taut psychological drama! Get me Benedict Cumberbatch on the phone!”
Other than the homo crap, maybe it really is a bad movie.
I agree… was curious why it was nominated. Just another elitist movie to make homosexuality mainstream. Dr Strange of all people.
Sam is getting a little tense. Maybe he needs to reprise his role in role in “The Big Lebowski” where he basically stole the movie.
He’s right. The movie is crap.
😂
I enjoyed his work early on. However, as you say it’s a bit long in the tooth with the typecasting.
I can’t give an honest review of his performances, however, as I’m still trying to regain my composure after watching the breathtakingly sexy and gorgeous Lesley Ann Warren do whatever she wished in her role in the series.
“The “1883” actor “
The FORMER “1883” actor.
The man who killed Hitler then Bigfoot is worth watching.
My wife & I bailed halfway through the movie.
It stunk.
I always liked Sam Elliot.
Personally I don’t care if people want to make gay media. It’s a free country.
I liked Brokeback Mountain as a film I thought it was well done. It told a story of heartbreak and struggle and internal conflict. The gay theme was integral to the story.
I don’t like when it is forced, or faked, or inserted for reasons that aren’t critical to the story itself just for the sake of political correctness. Just like I never was a fan of sex scenes in movies. Not because I am anti-sex but because all too often it was just put into the film for the titillation effect (pun intended). Yeah we know, people get down. You don’t need to show it for 48 seconds just because you can. Totally unnecessary but done for reasons I don’t really understand.
Just one guy’s take.
If you don’t like a particular movie, you can criticize it. You can point out its faults. Everyone agrees with that.
Unless the movie features folks on the PC list (homosexuals, Muslims, etc.). Then you must praise the movie without reservation...if you know what’s good for you.
Ain’t free speech grand?
Always liked Elliott.
“Sometimes Ya Eat the Bear
and sometimes,,,”

Good ole Sam.
