A Bolshie Trick, they knew eventually they would come back for all of it in due course.

Thank God for Piłsudski.

Interesting to learn about this old treaty.

But is this treaty still in effect? I don’t know all the specifics of how the Soviet Union formed and combined Russia will many other countries, including Ukraine.

I also thought there was an agreement, in 1990 or 1991, in which the Soviet Union officially dissolved, and Russia recognized independence of the countries of the former Soviet Union. Was that a formal treaty which would still be binding today?

By the terms of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, Russia recognized the independence of Ukraine, Georgia and Finland; gave up Poland and the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to Germany and Austria-Hungary; and ceded Kars, Ardahan and Batum to Turkey. The total losses constituted 1 million square miles of Russia’s former territory...

Harsh terms! Although, part of the depth of their defeat was due to the Germans sending Lenin back into Russia to foment rebellion and a quick end to the war. So, in a way, Russia bought it, since the current government worships Lenin, and now they own it.

When has Russia EVER abided by any treaty or pact? The US stupidly entered into arms treaties with the Soviets, as the Soviets violated every one of them. We entered into “parity” agreements with the Soviets/Russians to reduce nukes; yet, here we are today with Russia having 1,000 more than us. Do not EVER trust the Russian government.
