What a disappointment. I first read that sentence as “The 40 best bustlines of all time.”

This would have been my pick, if I had to choose just one.

The bassline for the guitar solo is especially epic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdGFl_mXKrs

Nice to see The Jam, The Clash and The Stranglers in there — I’m definitely a child of the 80s. Never was a big Stranglers fan, but I appreciated their talent. I always liked The Jam, but I’ve recently rediscovered them and become a huge fan. Great band.

Above is a short (2:25) instrumental featuring Geddy Lee on a fretless bass, “Malignant Narcissim”. He got the guitar delivered as they were mixing an album and was noodling around with it when it first arrived.

The sound guy hit “record” and when Geddy was done played it back and said “How about another song for the album?” They reworked it a bit, Neil was still there with a small warm-up kit still so he added his part. Alex had already gone home, so he listened to their stuff and mixed in his guitar on his home studio.

Wow. The best baseline they could come up with from John Entwistle is My Generation by The Who?

Lame list. They list Ramble On by Led Zeppelin but not the Lemon Song? So many better JPJ lines.
