Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg (FL)

100 LAPS | 180 MILES

The 1.8-mile, 14-turn (5 lefts, 9 rights) circuit incorporates streets of downtown St. Petersburg and a section of runway of Albert Whitted Airport.

After the long front stretch, there's a tight right-hander into Turn 1 and then a quick left-hand turn. Plenty of drivers have gotten into trouble in these two turns over the years. There are two other long straights with heavy braking zones that afford opportunities to overtake.

Broadcast by NBC & Peacock Networks, 12 noon ET.

The IndyCar season starts. F1 starts March 20th at Bahrain, and IMSA begins 12 Hours of Sebring, March 18-19th.

This should be a good race on an exciting city street track...

I wonder how the war in Ukraine will affect the F1 season’s races in Europe, if at all?

While I like the early start it is kind of crazy. The next race after St Pete is almost a month away!!

They’ve already cancelled the Russian GP.

GOOD! That $10-20 million in revenue they won’t get from the race, sponsors, vendors, TV contracts etc.

3 weeks. Then they get closer together as the Spring arrives and the weather becomes more predictable. Hand in there; I’m anxious, too.

Here’s where I go to get everything on my favorite — F1, IMSA, FIA-WEC, IndyCars — venues of racing:

I remember Andy Granatelli and his STP Indy Car, with Tom, from back in the 60s &n 70s. Any relation?

I was on the BFG IMSA Camel-GT Racing Team, doing tire testing (I only had a Class C SCCA license, so I couldn’t do wheel-to-wheel racing; needed a Class A SCCA license for that), in their new Porsche 962 (US) /957 (Europe), back in the mid-late-70s and early 80s.

“Most fun I’ve had with my clothes on.” — me. Heh.

The turbine (bearings) swallowed itself and blew-up. Lots of blue oil smoke, but no win.

You were one of the “rocks” of the pits; keeping everything moving smoothly. Congrats on that job.

We raced at every track from The Glen to Laguna Seca, and everything in between. Great times.
