There is speculation that Putin believed his own propaganda about Ukraine not having a representative government since 2014 being occupied by Nazi's, etc. Putin may have really convinced himself he would be welcomed as a liberator.

Europe may have finally found their gonads. I believe they are in Ukraine. To fight with this spirit to remain as they are, they deserve to be in NATO.

They and the Poles are the only ones that have any guts to them it seems.

JAVELIN MISSILES

Ukraine: Purchased 377 launchers and 1200 missiles. In 2018 Ukraine purchased 210 missiles and 37 launchers. No details beyond the confirmation of the delivery (on 30 April 2018) have been provided.

At the end of 2019, Ukraine announced it had signed contracts to purchase another 150 missiles and 10 launchers. On June 21, 2020, they were sent to Ukraine.

In early December 2021 the commander of the Joint Forces Operation confirmed deployment of Javelin missiles with troops near the line of contact in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine: At least 2,000 NLAW units are known to be supplied to Ukraine by the United Kingdom by January 19th 2022 and more shipments, including by other supporters, can be assumed amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[

It works against soft-skinned targets too, although other weapons would probably be a better choice, given the cost of NLAWS ($20K) and Javelins (>$100K). NLAWS have a range of 1/2 mile, and Javelins are good to 1-1/2 miles. The great thing about these weapons is the fire and forget feature. Older wire-guided anti-tank weapons used require the operator to remain in position to guide the warhead to the target, exposing him to machine gun and tank fire once the enemy saw the flame and smoke plume emitted by his weapon.
