I want a few ounces of gold

Posted on 02/26/2022 8:32:53 AM PST by LouAvul

Not interested in an investment. It's purely for the sake of just having some gold.

Now is not the time to buy it, but, I've heard of people buying gold from dealers, and later discover it's not real.

I understand the difference between spot price and market price, but a couple of stores have been recommended.

Tulsa Gold and Silver. For example.

My question is, can such a place be trusted?

I use APMEX.

Top quality. Reliable.

Go to a coin shop and buy U.S. 1/10 oz bullion coins. They’re about the size of a dime. You should pay spot price plus a couple of percent.

I bought a bunch of Krugerrands and US silver dollars back in the 70s. They’ve been hidden away since. Likely my grandkids will play with them after I croak.

I got some dozen 1 oz Leaf ones. Maybe Canadian Leaf.

They were some $295 then. Like 1999.

I maybe confusing them with Silver.

Why not take a trip to Alaska and pan it if you just want a little gold. I’ve done that a number of times and have had success at Fairbanks. And it’s a good trip with a lot of things to see and do.

Have you both bought and sold? This is the issue with everybody I talk to: buying retail and then having to sell wholesale.

More like 4-5 % when you buy and 5% to sell it back to them. So, it has to appreciate 10% to break even! Buy ammo, it is marked up, but with 3 years of Xiben it ain’t coming down.

Use Apmex and have shipped to a PO box (which is what I do). You will pay about 10%-15% over market price, but that is pretty standard. Think of it as a "shipping and handling" fee.

I stick to assayed ingot and wafers as the markup is lower than most coins. Coins are generally collectable and I just want the metal, so no coins for me unless they are sold at discount. Look at the clearance or discounted items to save even more money.

I have been looking at this for a gift. Jewelry is not worn by the recipient and I like the premade scores to break $60-70 chunks off and barter with. Been wondering about delivery of a high dollar item like this.

Ammo is more valuable than gold.

We're adding more lead and silver in our HH. However, I feel the need to get some practice in at one of the local firing ranges.

Payday's just around the corner, I'll look for specials online.

That is the best metal investment you can make. In difficult times, it will be so valuable you won’t even exchange any of it. Merely showing it to people will get you what you want.
