I enjoy foraging as does my wife and we do it often. Today we were out in the woods by a lake in Northern Sicily gathering wild asparagus, cardone (those of Italian heritage here will know what those are) and several varieties of wild greens, all of which are delicious and good for you.

In the fall we pick wild mushrooms along with other varieties of wild greens. If you know what you're doing you can safely pick and enjoy some very tasty wild foods. Go with a pro before going alone - take your time to learn what's in your neck of the woods and NEVER eat ANYTHING you're not 100% sure is safe to eat.

Personally, I draw the line a bit short of 100%. It makes life more interesting that way.

My Grandpa use to go mushroom hunting but my mom would never let us eat them.

Gramps lived til his mid-80’s. I suspect he knew what he was doing!
