PRUDENT MEASURES
Original Content | 2/24/2022 | By Laz A. Mataz

A friend on FR sent me a Freepmail, warning me to take prudent electronic measures. This is due to the recent actions in Ukraine, and our possible (hamhanded) response, followed by a likely all-out cyber war.

A cyber war could do quite a bit of damage, disrupting financial institutions and even shutting down our water and electricity. Therefore, I will take my friends post, and expand it.

Please take some prudent measures. If nothing happens, GREAT.... but if something happens, you'll think back to that time when your good ole' buddy Laz warned you, and you heeded him.

PRUDENT MEASURES BELOW:

FINANCIAL:

- Make sure you have a secure connection to your banking & investment accounts first;

- Get on your banks, investment accounts;

- Download copies of statements of each today. Complete with up to date balances, your account #’s, etc..;

- Store them on a removable USB drive. DO NOT leave them on your computer. I'd actually go entirely to paper...;

- If you do not have an SSL VPN provider, get one today. I use NordVPN;

- If you have the technical capability, run pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi 3 (or better) device OR on an existing Linux box.

- Do not “run naked” on the internet. Personal security on the internet right now is even more important than ever. Whatever you do, don’t rely on your router’s firewall or Windows Security to protect you.

PHYSICAL:

I might suggest:

- You have as large a backlog of meds as you can. I have laid up about a years worth, including insulin.

- You secure yourself as large a quantity of water as you can. I got a 55 gal plastic drum. If you don’t have that, and you have a swimming pool, you’re good... if it is filled. If not, get a bathtub waterbob (which I also have) and water purification methods. At bare minumum, lay in some 2 liter empty-soda bottles. DO NOT USE MILK JUGS, that will kill you.

- Make sure your weapon(s) are functional and sighted in, and that they are by your side.

- Hopefully you have dried, canned, or otherwise preserved food. While a cooking source is nice, for canned goods it is optional.

- If shit gets hairy, contact your neighbors to form an area-defense league. Be sensitive to when the law no longer matters. That is called the Inflection Point. When the Inflection Point occurs, be ready to kill to defend yours. And remember: More trigger-pullers always beats fewer trigger-pullers.

“we keep all of that data in a separate go bag.”

Great advice!

Maybe even need to store extra copies with a family member or a good friend who you trust.

We need to respect and plan for a “If SHTF” philosophy

They were marrying and giving in marriage up to the time the fountains of the deep opened in the days of Noah.

At a later date, The Lord covenanted with Noah that never again would he destroy all living using water. “As if by fire” is the next iteration out of scripture.

Proud long time member of the PeePee list.

Getting a year ahead on your prescriptions is an idea that should be of concern to all who are on certain meds that are life saving additions to your daily walk.

The way things are now, with interconnected pharmacies keeping track of refills it is nearly impossible through normal means to accomplish what you have suggested. Especially if you get caught about refill time at the low end of your supply. It pretty much requires your Doctor and nurse assistance but even more important the assistance of pharmacies. Off shore is certainly an option, but without a lab test to insure the viability of product, what are you actually getting. Definitely a topic that deserves a bit of discussion.

DO NOT USE MILK JUGS, that will kill you. This point IMHO needs some explanation.

I use various plastic containers some with out the latest food grade triangular icon on them because they were purchased in Greece over forty years ago. I have been prepping more than fifty years and still consider my preps mere baby steps.

Don’t know what a bathtub water bob is.

A very useful emergency prep water storage containercan be a kids inflatable pool.

example of common size:

Intex 8.5ft x 5.75ft x 22in 198 Gallon Inflatable Family Swimming Pool.( about $60.

smaller sizes come in very compact boxes easiley stored in vehicles in bug out scenarios...

For shelter in place garages, basements etc are good spots to place them. Truck beds as well. Indoor placement safeguards against leaves, bugs etc. as well as being hidden from casual observation by goblins. add hoses, car type tire inflators (make sure you compatiple nozzles. Foot bellows as backup.

90 gal capacity can usually be had for less than $30.

Forgot to add that published fill capacity is based on folks in the pool...for storage purposes pools can be filled to brim, adding substantially greater capacity.

Thanks for the advice. I just need to fill up some water jugs; and a few buckets or tub with water to flush the commode.
