The real problem is that the Germans and French have already sold out to Russian natural gas. Had they maintained their own sources, or at least opposed Nord Stream so that the pipelines would continue to run through the Ukraine and Poland, it would have been an entirely different story.
The reason Nordstream 2 was built in the first place was to avoid Ukrainian theft and corrupt DC scions demanding gold plated featherbed jobs.
