His name and reputation are forever soiled if not ruined.

I really doubt if they knew this much about him until now.
That’s a sentence in itself in this day and age. Hardly only a scarlet letter in a local community these days, this will scar his name and reputation for life.
Still, I don’t think sentencing should be any more lenient because of this. Fry this guy or let his victim’s next of kin decide the punishment.
