I'm not exactly sure what happened, it was a long time ago. But I think he audited the classes because he didn't have a high school degree. Then the college worked with with him to change the classes after he brought his GED to them.

He was killed at 18 in a head on collision by a drunk and high illegal alien going 100 mph in a stolen car. Another accomplishment was that he played 9 instruments well. He was home-schooled, of course.
