The Philly Sound is going to the movies.

The Sound of Philadelphia, a new documentary film, will tell the story of songwriters and producers Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, and Thom Bell, architects of the Philly soul sound that was a dominant musical and cultural force in the 1970s. The film is now in production with a team that includes Oscar- and Emmy-winning documentarian Alex Gibney.

Gamble, Huff, and Bell — collectively known as “The Mighty Three” — have a shared catalog of over 3,500 songs, whose innumerable hits include The O’Jays’ “Back Stabbers,” Billy Paul’s “Me & Mrs. Jones,” The Delfonics’ “La-La (Means I Love You),” and The Stylistics’ “You Are Everything,” among others.

I LOVE the Stylistics!

Had a tape from its waning days but I destroyed that one too.

TSOP…..I know that is on my survey because it was before, being in the Billboard top 10 of the year.

Yes. “Smiling Faces” by the Undisputed Truth. An extremely well crafted song. None of their other releases charted as high, unfortunately.

Money, money, money, money .... MOOOONEY!

Great song. Somebody should do a mash-up of this song and Pink Floyd’s “Money.” Competing for most memorable bass intro.

I wasn't just talking about the song TSOP (which I've heard a Mummers string band play) but the Philly soul *scene*, going back to the sixties with the Soul Survivors, the Delfonics, Jerry Butler (whose career Gamble & Huff revitalized [I *looove* "Only the Strong Survive" and "What's the Use of Breaking Up"]), and some lesser knowns.
