It does NOT destroy the pet industry. It would allow the banning of of importation of dangerous alien species with no know natural predators. The devastation of native wildlife in the Everglades by imported pythons should be sufficient evidence to SUPPORT the amendment.

There are a lot of species that would be extinct if it were not for the pet industry, especially in the tropical fish hobby. Many species have lost their habitat due to human expansion and only exist in any numbers because of hobbyist. Because of their economic value nations protect the limited areas where they can still survive. If the US market is closed to importation their economic value may be lost. There are also species that can no longer can be found in the wild and only survive due to efforts of hobbyist. Periodically hobbyist will import these fish from other countries to promote genetic diversity and prevent damage to the species from too much inbreeding.

Exactly right urchin. This is terrible legislation, especially for the protection of rare species.
