Florida Man Arrested After Stolen Car Catapulted Into Home by Train
Newsweek ^ | 2/7/2022 | Sara Santora

A Florida man has been accused of stealing a car that was ultimately hit by a train and catapulted into a nearby home, police said. The man, Bradford Weitzel, has since been arrested on charges of grand theft and criminal mischief.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office said in a public Facebook post that Weitzel stole the car upon leaving a bar early Saturday morning. He told detectives that he couldn't find his vehicle, so he stole someone else's in a "good faith effort to locate his own."

Eventually, however, Weitzel found himself on the train tracks along Indian River Drive—a 13.7-mile stretch of road that connects Fort Pierce and Jensen Beach.

"Weitzel claims the vehicle he stole suddenly stopped dead on the tracks as a train was coming," said police. "So he said he got out and ran, leaving the car on the tracks.

"Within seconds, the train hit the car, catapulting it into a nearby home where the homeowners were sound asleep," police continued.

Fortunately, the homeowners were not injured in the crash.

After abandoning the stolen car, police said Weitzel then vandalized a nearby fruit stand and attempted to steal a forklift. He was later arrested after flagging down the responding deputies to "let them know he was still looking for his car."

In addition to grand theft and criminal mischief, police said other charges "are expected."

Good thing he wasn’t near an airport. Reminds me of me playing GTA.

Besides the man eating sharks and alligators, water moccasins, mosquitoes big as cats, 90+ degree heat with 90% humidity 10 months out of the year, hurricanes and the tornadoes that the hurricanes spawn....this is just one more reason people shouldn’t come here...much less move here.

Well, while you can question his sense of judgment, you have to admit that he can think outside of the box.

Yeah, but only if you count serial bad decision making as “thinking” (outside the box or otherwise).

Certainly a good Florida Man story.

My all time favorite is still the hometown story of a guy from out in the Farms throwing an alligator through the drive-through window at a Wendy's in Jupiter.

"A judge on Tuesday ordered James to stay away from all Wendy’s restaurants, to avoid possessing any weapons, to get a mental health evaluation and to limit his contact with animals to his mother’s dog."

Oh you don't have to worry about me, I can leave Florida alone, no problem. Snow and ice are predictable, and not that hard to deal with if you have any sense at all.

Ha, back in ‘89 we had a light dusting of snow in my town over a weekend and it shut down everything for the whole weekend.

Airport, trains, busses, bridges all of it.

We have 7 main bridges here connecting one side of town to the other and at least 3 intracoastal bridges connecting town to beach.

It was a cluster.

You haven’t lived ‘till you’ve seen a city full of people that have never driven in those conditions drive in those conditions, it was hilarious.

Fortunately I had an old 4x4 at the time and had a blast....notv to mention making a few bucks pulling people out of situations they had gotten themselves into.

What a trip. Lol

Yeah falling iguanas is a fairly rare event.

Hurricanes and tornados however are all to dependable ones.
