That rule was silly for anything above Little League.
After the whole All-Star Game dust up last year, I did not listen to any more MLB ball. Instead, I purchased a season pass to MiLB.TV for $39.99 and found it to very good - and there are so many teams to choose from. For 2022, I will still listen in to my favorite announcers - Jon Miller for SF, Greg Brown / Bob Walk for PIT, etc. but I have largely given up on MLB.
If the Automated Ball-Strike system ever takes hold in MLB, I guess that will be it for even listening/watching to MLB games.
It will be used this season in AAA ball in Albuquerque, Charlotte, El Paso, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, Reno, Round Rock, Sacramento, Salt Lake, Sugar Land and Tacoma. I will give it a quick whirl, but from what I saw last year in the Low-A Southeast League I was not impressed. So I will probably pass on watching most home games at those parks.
Baseball, more than some other sports, is a game of tradition. They are slowly killing off the game. Oh well.
