“small modular nuclear reactors”
About time, only been saying this for over 30 years.
It will take 30 years for the first one................
Only ten years late to the party.
They should have started these 30 years ago. Same with water desalination plants. Corporation against Corporation plus politicians are what cause these hold ups to do the right things. Product lobby against product lobby. Big Oil against Nuclear in this case.
It is not at all about the environment as they claim. Because a bunch of small, safer, easier to control plants is much better for the environment and stable supply than one big plant that is completely uncontrollable and dangerous if it melts down.
Union of Concerned Scientists is pretty much KGB. “Nuclear Winter,” for instance, was the work of Sergei Tretyakov and the Red Banner Institute. UCS knew that, and even invited Soviet observers by sat link to participate in Carl Sagan’s 1983 conference to promote the theory. KGB asset Paul Crutzen won a Nobel Prize for his work on ozone depletion, but was a key force behind UCS.
And what do they propose to do with all the radioactive waste, give it to Space X?
From a system wide perspective, smr’s would be the way to go. Decentralize the grid and reduce energy waste in transmission over long distances. We’ve been building smr’s for naval vessels for fifty years, we know how to do it if the obstructionists would just stand back. And unlike large reactors smr’s could be virtually mass produced on demand. The list of opponents really tells the tale— left wing radicals.
They oppose ANYTHING with the word ‘nuclear’ in the title................
They will crank up the protest machine and start spewing crap about a CHERNOBYL IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD!
WE MUST PROTECT THE CHILDREN!
THERE WILL BE CANCERS EVERYWHERE!......etc, etc, etc.................
Well, the Ford Fusion certainly was...
At least for 14 years...
However, getting back to thorium reactors, I thought that China, Japan, or S. Korea had something going on??
I always find that funny.

Once the factory is up and rolling Rolls says 500 days from ground breaking to busbar.

Give it to the French, Russians or Koreans have them reprocessed it into more fuel and put the 4% that is actual waste down a borehole 4000 meters into solid Granite fill the top 3000 meters with concrete and sleep well at night.
Better yet buy 4 sections of land in central Texas over the granite batholith I’ll do the Geological survey and geosteer the wells into their 4km total depth. My LLC will take possession of the 4 sections and I will personally live on top right in the middle of the borehole field going bore hole to borehole with the rigs drilling the holes. In addition to my services as a consulting geo a trust will be set up with a million dollars a year indexed to the inflation rate for continuing Geological monitoring for the next 100 years. With 4 sections of land once the borehole are drilled and filled I’ll run cattle over the tops of them. I’d be happy as a clam living right on top of bore holes drilled every 50 meters apart in a grid pattern then plugged with miles of concrete.
Waste is a political problem not a scientific one. If the dot gov is reading my above offer is real I am a geologist with decades of experience with disposal boreholes of all manor of liquid wastes solid wastes are easy peasy.
Because it is!....................
