Heck, sorting would only work (if you’ve described the problem correctly) if the array was originally sorted. If it was randomly-arranged items a sort wouldn’t reverse it.Yeah. I forget the actual things they said people tried to solve it with, but every one of them was inordinately complex.
Mine was simple and super elegant.

Hell, I didn’t even remember what an O(n) solution was, from my Comp Sci days.
I just went to the simplest solution my gut told me would work. :^)

Whenever I get interviewed for a job and they ask what I think my weakness or faults are I say “I care too much” or “I work to hard sometimes.”Those are the cliche answers and most HR people roll their eyes at that humblebrag. Seriously, that answer is a punchline now. The current thinking is to actually answer the question honestly, BUT...what you want to give them is something that's easily fixable by their training. "While I have deep experience with systems X, Y, and Z, I haven't spent as much time as I'd like learning the newest version of Z that I understand you're using now. I'm very excited to learn that, though."

Many years ago I was in an interview years ago and was on the 2nd round. That was with a VP, who’d happened to have flown in that day for other stuff, and decided to interview me. I can’t remember exactly what the question was, but it was most likely really general, like “why should we hire you?”. My answer was “Well, I’m one of the laziest people you’ll probably ever meet.”
Dead silence followed, and I continued, “You see, I want computers to work for me, not the other way around, so I’m willing to invest time, thought and energy in any automation I can so that everything runs as smoothly as possible with as little additional babysitting from me as I can manage.”
It was a systems manager position, and I ended up working there for more than a decade. It was a fun gig because I really enjoyed the folks I worked with.

Best answer ever. I’d have hired you on the spot and started you that day.

Is that the source of the "don't hire smart people, hire smart lazy people to work for you" statement I've heard so many times over the years?

They pretty much did. It was a great job, and I did manage to eventually almost automate myself right out of a job. lol.
