Ok what happens is plastics break down often due to sunlight. Others break down by hydrolysis upon exposure to water. They break into smaller and smaller pieces. This causes a lot more environmental damage than does “global warming”.

These little plastics puncture the walls of fish intestines, people eat the fish and the same happens to them. Others become airborne.

One of my packaging professors was big on researching sustainable packaging for this very reason.
