Add gorillas to the list of creatures intimidated by Shaquille O'Neal.
During a recent episode of "The Big Podcast with Shaq," the former NBA big man explained that gorillas freak out when he shows up at zoos and that they want to fight him. Shaq even called an executive from Zoo Miami during the podcast who confirmed the tale.
The conversation came up when Shaq was contemplating whether to let his gray hair grow out, joking that he would be a "silverback" gorilla and not a "silver fox."
This led to Shaq, a huge zoo aficionado, explaining how gorillas act in his presence.
"True story," Shaq said. "I've been to every zoo in the world, and every time I go to the gorilla section, they look at me like, 'Hey man, where your fur at?' For real. For real. That's how they look at me. They also look at me like, 'What am I doing in here and you out there?' And they always go crazy when they see me."
Shaq, who is 7 feet 1, 325 pounds, then called the animal expert Ron Magill, the communications director for Zoo Miami. Magill is also a bit of a "zookeeper to the stars" and a celebrity in his own right.

People get trashed on FR all the time. Sometimes I think that FR must have the most perfect people in the world—as they can point out the most minor flaws in everyone else.

I recall an old episode of West Coast Choppers with Jesse James when he built a bike for Shaq. Funny to see an average fairly big guy like Jesse James take the bike for a test drive. He looked like a kid on the bike he built around Shaq’s dimensions.
Reminds me of a fellow I knew who did come custom work at Patrick Ewing’s house years ago. Everything was scaled up. Standing in the kitchen and the counter is up to his chest. Reaching up for the door knobs... haha, he said he felt like he was 6 years old all over again
I'm a fan for his very sweet, amusing way of talking when he is an ad spokesperson. Makes you want to run right out and pick up some IcyHot or whatever he's selling. I saw his mother on a Christian talk show, and she is a Christian; so I don't know about the muslim thing. His Jamaican stepfather was an American Army sergeant and probably a Black Muslim, which is not quite the same as the middle eastern groups. Wikipedia says:
O'Neal was raised by a Baptist mother and a Muslim stepfather. Both Robin Wright in her book Rock the Casbah as well as the Los Angeles Times have identified O'Neal as a Muslim. However, O'Neal has said, "I'm Muslim, I'm Jewish, I'm Buddhist, I'm everybody 'cause I'm a people person."
Had a classmate from high school who worked with Alec Baldwin on Broadway. Said he was a jerk among jerks.

Yes he does. His mother and brother were living there. Funny story my BIL tells is that one of his guys was working at Shaq’s house and his worker was wearing a tee shirt with a confederate flag on it. (The worker’s nickname everyone called him is “redneck”). Anywho, Shaq’s mom saw it and asked him to take it off and he did so, only to reveal his big tattoo of...the Confederate flag!!
Friend of mine worked a movie set with Cuba Gooding and Ben Affleck. He said Affleck was a normal genuine guy and Gooding was a total jerk. But you didn’t hear that from me if anyone asks.
Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part, he's way better than Ben Affleck.

Shaq and Barkley are two of the respectable NBA guys who spoke out against the BLM movement and the WOKE crap happening in the sport. They see speaking to each other on TV and they were critical of LBJ and his disciples.
He appears to be a disarming humble and self deprecating black giant

And these days I rarely like any nba player or admin or sportscaster
For him to laugh that he is amused that great apes feel he is one of them and scares them is truly funny and honest
It’s his color and musculature and he’s honest about it without preening about being a victim of missing link racism
I truly respect that

A buddy of mine tried selling insurance and was training with a guy - a very tall and large black guy. In Minnesota. They go into the first prospect’s house and the big guy stumbles as he enters and makes a joke about how clumsy he was.

My buddy asked him what was going on.
“I know I’m pretty intimidating to look at, and it can scare some folks. So I stumble to let them know I’m just an ordinary guy and not all that intimidating.”
