This is an entirely different Australia when my ship pulled in for shore leave sometime 80's. We were tied up to a small pier in Bunbury in western Perth region.

It was our 4th of July weekend and they couldn't be more gracious and thankful for American efforts from WWII and on. They even opened up their bars, clubs, other venues on a Sunday. It was the best liberty I experienced in my 11 years Navy. In all my ports, I never met such accommodating folks.

At that time Australia was a reflection of America's values of liberty and justice. Their Constitution was very similar to ours, as happened in many countries in the World. I don't know where they went wrong...haven't followed their politics. I suspect it's the same ole thing...the gimmedats voted in the wrong people.

We had a port call in Canada. Came across a sign on a bar door. No American sailors allowed.
