The tech is making it possible. Ducted electric fans used on RC planes made to out perform (to scale) the real thing. It prolly wouldnt get you off the ground but it will boost you from 80 to 180 mph for about 5 minutes. You are gonna be smeared into a cliff face by then I am sure.

Yeah, what's wrong with plain old gas turbines? All this insane infatuation with electric, electric, electric for every application under the sun is just nuts. It makes sense for some applications (like powering my PC, keeping my lights on, and running the oven), but there are some applications where it just continues to make sense to use the high energy density of liquid hydrocarbon fuels.
