I agree with you. A lot of people assume that the only reason Roberts and others vote for leftist policies is because they’re compromised. I’ve always believed that the reason most of them vote for leftist policies is because they are, in fact, leftist ideologues.
Some have tried calling Roberts a conservative on the basis of his Harvard senior paper, "The Utopian Conservative: A Study of Continuity and Change in the Thought of Daniel Webster," but his other award winning Harvard paper, "Marxism and Bolshevism: Theory and Practice" may be more dispositive of Roberts' real leanings.
